I am very excited to be close to finished with my first e-book and I want your opinion. My designer has come up with two very different approaches for the book cover. Which do you like better? [Please note that these are mockups, not final art and that she would choose silhouettes of the actual dogs for the graphic version of the cover, and possible other images for the photo cover.] See the final cover here! Golden Angels: Lessons in Love and Loss from Buddy Girl and Daisy May
The book is 13 essays about losing a loved one (in this case, my dog Buddy Girl), grieving, and being open to loving again. Each essay ends with a recipe that helps tell the story. Of course, I’ll let you know when it’s available… but right now, please let me know in the comments which one you like better.
[…] excited to be able to show you guys! Thanks to everyone who voted… I read and reflected upon all your comments. This design includes the actual silhouettes of […]
I actually like the top of Option B and the bottom of Option A (from the title down), so I would try an Option C, a merging of the two, which might end up giving you the best of both worlds. Looks like a great book! Best of luck with it.
Thanks Sylvia Joy! I will reveal the final cover design tomorrow!
Both look good, but cover B is more inviting. If your designer does end up using those two photos, then perhaps she could flip the puppy shot and use it on the top so that the puppy is looking to the right (guiding the eye into the title of the book). Photoshopping out the leash would be nicer aesthetically. And then using the older dog photo on the bottom would suggest a progression in age, lending towards a more chronologically balanced gestalt. I wish you the best in this endeavor. Keep us updated!
Cover B. I like seeing the real thing.
Definitely B — it’s warm and alive. A is too sterile, no emotion.
I vote for Cover B. It grabbed my attention immediately.
I like Cover B – best wishes on your e-book!
I am going for A.. because of the empty space. I would like to use B with the dogs silhouetted. The surrounds are there, the dogs in spirit.
Lesson in Love and Loss… is implying that I am going to get a lesson, I think it should read:
My Lesson in Love and Loss with Buddy Girl and Daisy May. or My Lesson with Love and Loss with Buddy Girl and Daisy May. That’s mi 10 cent worth. Stephanie best of luck with it. P.S. Make your name bigger so the people will remember you when your next big seller hits the market!!>> Cheers and all the best.
Most decidedly B. Adorable.
I’m so not a expert on this but I think I like the graphic look of A.
Stephanie, I’m so excited for your ebook. I can’t wait to read it!
Brava!
Kel
They are both great – I have to agree with Sondi- B is super cute, but graphically A is great – I don’t think you could go wrong with either one. I think B might appeal to more dog owners – just b/c they look so cute!
Stephanie — I love B (though A is also sweet). I just love dogs so much, that I like seeing the actual dog, with their expressions and all. Loosing a pet is so very hard — I so look forward to your book!
I’m torn… I think B would catch and keep my notice.
I really like the look of the first one, design A.
Hmm…at first glance, I was more attracted to cover B with the cute doggies. But from a design perspective, I really like cover A – it’s got a retro feel to it, and I like the simplicity of the colours and the silhouettes.
Definitely Cover B! Looking forward to it. :)
Sounds like an interesting read. I like cover B
Congratulations! I like cover number two the best. :-)
Love cover B, and I can’t wait to read it
