Dear friends, on Thursday December 30th we found out that Buddy Girl had cancer. She had not been feeling well since September. On Sunday the 1st, many of her friends came by to spend some time with her.
We took her to her favorite place on Monday January 2nd, Coronado Island. She splashed in the water, ate french fries from the table, laid with us on the grass, and met tons of little kids.
As always, and even as sick as we knew she was, she was pure sunshine. People’s faces lit up when they saw her. She had the ultimate Buddy day, and then we let her go.
While we are incredibly sad, we also feel so blessed that this beautiful angel gave us eleven incredible years, changing both of us forever. Just like the Grinch, our hearts grew at least three sizes loving Buddy.
So many people were touched by her, and we have learned so much, that I’ll be writing a lot more about her.
Good night, Bud Bud.
I wrote my second book to honor her: Golden Angels: A Pet Loss Memoir.

Hi Stephanie! I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Such a beautiful dog and so obviously loved. As they say, she’ll be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for you. Hope the healing is going well. Lots of love from Oregon.
What a beautiful soul she is. Just reading about her made an impact on me. :) It is such a hard, loving thing to be able to let them go.
We have a 13 year old border collie. After 13 years they aren’t really pets anymore. They are family. What a wonderful life she had with you.
I’m sending a hug from so far away.
Kel
What a beautiful way to say goodbye to your faithful companion. May those empty spaces be filled with beautiful new adventures when the time is right.
Shalom.
Nicole
I am so sorry, Stephanie. I’ve got tears running down my face as I’m so sorry that you have lost one of life’s purest loves. Thanks for sharing those pics of your Buddy–she looked like pure joy. I’ll have to give my pup an extra long hug tonight. I am, again, so sorry for you and your husband’s loss.
Oh, Stephanie… I’m so sorry to read about your pup. We have lost two of them, and I understand how difficult it is. Both had cancer as well. I was going to write how enjoyable it was to see you today, and it truly was! But now I’m sitting her with tears streaming down my face for Buddy. A wonderful post in her memory….
XOXO
Awash in tears.
So sorry for your loss Stephanie. You were both lucky to have had each other for so long. Hugs!
I’m so sorry to hear this. She was a beautiful dog and will always hold that special place in your heart. Kendall sends wags your way.
A beautiful tribute!
I saw your post in the Facebook Healthy Food Bloggers group and I had to click over. What a pup she was!! I have a five year old golden named Grady so have a soft spot for any blogger that shares their dogs on their blog. Just wanted to share a virtual hug and our thoughts and prayers.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s obvious from the photos what a wonderful spirit she was (is?). May her memory be a blessing to you both!
Andrew, she did have the most amazing spirit. Alicia, thanks for stopping to say hello and we appreciate the virtual hug and prayers. Susan, Gretchen, Sarah, Liz, Kim, Maggie, Kel, and Nicole thanks for taking the time to comment. Cassidy, we have received quite a few copies of Rainbow Bridge, which I had never seen before. We appreciate your thoughts and wishes for our healing. XOXO
