Which cover do you like better, LEFT or RIGHT?
I’m working on a series of recipe collections. Each will contain 12 great recipes on a particular theme. They’ll be:
- affordable
- available on Amazon (PDF for color tablets and computers) and iTunes (enhanced iPad version)
- not overwhelming
- easy to deal with in a digital format
Since the top searches on my blog are vegan cheese, vegan yogurt, and other non-dairy recipes, this one will be the first.

LEFT or RIGHT?
Left
the right. more fun. many folks think that if it is healthy, it is boring, so i vote for the one that looks more fun and festive. and by the way, i’ve been over dairy and gluten for nearly two years. can’t wait for you book! best with it all, wendy
Yay! Congrats. And my vote is for left, too–even though I like the napkin better on the right, I agree that it takes attention away from the bowl. :)
Left, better focus on the bowl.
Right. It is more visually appealing.
Right…patterned napkin draws your attention
Left. The napkin pattern on the right is taking my attention away from the bowl of oatmeal. Definitely the left! :)
Left one!
So happy for you Stephanie, I hope this is a winning series for you!
Left. Like others have said, it seems cleaner. The other is a little distracting.
Left. The solid orange seems “cleaner” than the pattern with all the other colors going on. But both are very cute and eye-catching. How exciting!
Absolutely, positively left. Clean, simple and elegant.
I like the one on the left. My eye is drawn more to the delicious-looking bowl, as opposed to the napkin behind.
Left. It appears as simple and clean. The patterning of the napkin on the right, while good colors, looks a little busy to me. The Left side is bold and easy to focus on.
The right, it feels more like home.
Right
Left .. Catches the eye much faster!
Right!
Left. The right one takes the focus of the food, makes the overall picture too busy and looks a bit like its a lifestyle picture rather than a food one.
Left ;-)
Left!
Left.It is much cleaner…Good luck with your series.
So excited for your next eBook!
While the left is a cleaner look, I do like the right better–the patterned napkin is pretty and adds a lot to the picture and overall cover.
Either way, I know what’s inside is going to be a winner :)
left. the book is about food, which should be centric. Not napkins.
Left…the napkin is brighter & adds a joyfilled feeling (color the Buddhist monks wear :)
I had to REALLY study the photos to even see the differences. Still half asleep I guess. I think I like the one on the left better even though I really like the flowered napkin.
Left.
Left. It’s a cleaner design, I find the pattern napkin too busy.
I think both of them are nice Stephanie. Great color combos. Now, if I was sitting down to eat and both place settings were at a table, I’d sit at the meal with the flower napkin. But that’s just me. Keep up the good work!
Left! And I NEED this book!
I love the one on the right. The pattern in the napkin adds energy and offsets the duller colors nicely.
Left – it’s more appetizing for some reason. Maybe it’s the pattern of the napkin on the right, but my first thought was that the right looked messier.
Left, the other one looks too busy. I want to see the title and the food first, and the left one does exactly that.
the one on the left – the food shines out more w/ that one.
Definitely RIGHT! The left looks more generic & reads more like a pamphlet or stock photography, while the right is more inviting (like being at a friend’s house) and interesting. Hope that’s helpful!
I vote right. I think the bright orange field created by the solid napkin is distracting because it jumps out at you, upstaging the food. The patterened napkin creates a generally-bright background for the bowl. But my biggest question is: What’s in the bowl? The book is about diary-free substitutes — a topic that interests me — but whatever’s in that bowl doesn’t look like a “dairy” dish. It actually looks like a latte with blueberries, not like anything I recognize.
I like the left one better. The solid orange napkin appeals to me more than the cute flowery one which I think detracts from the bowl of food.
while I WANT the napkin on the right, the one on the left is better for the cover as it doesn’t distract from the food yet matches the Twelve terrific logo. :)
I like the one on the left because you notice the picture of the food better. Mark likes the one on the right because he thinks the napkin brightens it up.
Right. The plain orange napkin, while a lovely color, is a bit less eye-catching than the one with the flowers.
Right. The napkin print livens up the picture.
Left. Flower pattern distracts your eyes.
left, the napkin pattern is too similar to the oatmeal and blueberries, sort of looks like it’s smeared on the napkin.
Right, the flowers freshen it up a bit.
